Currency

The official currency of Albania is the Albanian Lek (ALL), symbolized by L.

  • Exchange Rates: For the most accurate and up-to-date exchange rates, you can check the Bank of Albania website: https://www.bankofalbania.org/

  • Currency Exchange: You can exchange major currencies (EUR, USD, GBP, TRY) at the airport, local banks, or the many authorized exchange offices (zyrë këmbimi) found throughout the city. Euros are also widely accepted directly by many vendors.

  • Card Payments vs. Cash: Credit and debit cards (Visa/Mastercard) are accepted in major hotels, upscale restaurants, and larger supermarkets. However, Albania is still a highly cash-based society. It is strongly recommended to carry local cash (Lek) for cafes, taxis, smaller shops, and traditional markets.

  • ATMs: ATMs are common and easily accessible throughout Tirana's city center and near the conference venue.
